Family Centers Volunteers Honored at Greenwich Volunteer Day Ceremony
The Volunteer Center of Southwestern Fairfield County recognized seven Family Centers volunteers at the 2009 Greenwich Volunteer Day Awards Ceremony for their dedication to improving the lives of individuals and families in the area.
The ceremony, held at Greenwich Town Hall on June 2, honored the work of 25 Stamford-area youth and adult volunteers.
Laura Gold, a volunteer at Family Centers' Arch Street Preschool, was awarded the Spirit of Volunteerism Award. As a classroom volunteer with four and five year-olds, she takes the time to learn each name and takes an active role in helping the teachers to implement the lesson plan each week. Since starting the position in November of 2007, Gold has become a dedicated and invaluable member of Family Centers' volunteer community.
Kathleen Anne Fischer, Elizabeth Roberts, Amy Bien, Regina Lupo, Priscilla Cornell and Rosemary Froehlich, volunteers with Family Centers' The Den for Grieving Kids, were presented with the Outstanding Established Adult Volunteer Group at the ceremony. These six volunteers, with more than 29 years of experience combined, understand the complicated process of grief and have selflessly devoted their time to helping children, teens and families cope with their pain. As leaders of The Den's evening support group, these volunteers are irreplaceable companions to people in an intensely painful period of their lives.
